Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

HMA – Hindu Matchmaking Africa ("HMA", "we", "us") is the responsible party for the personal information processed through this platform, as defined by the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

2. Information we collect

Account details: email address, mobile number, password (stored hashed).
Identity and eligibility: date of birth (mandatory, used to confirm you are 18 or older), name or display name.
Profile details: gender, location, mother tongue, community, marital status, about text, photos and partner preferences.
Special personal information: religious and cultural details you choose to share.
Technical data: IP address, device information, and activity logs for security.

3. Why we process it

To confirm you are an adult and eligible to use HMA.
To create your profile and suggest compatible matches.
To verify members and prevent fraud, harassment and abuse.
To manage subscriptions and support requests.
To meet our legal obligations.

4. Consent

You give explicit consent when you register, and separately for the processing of special personal information and for marketing communications. You may withdraw marketing consent at any time without affecting your membership.

5. Who can see your information

Other members see only what your privacy settings allow. Photos and contact details are restricted to your connections by default. Staff access is limited to what is needed for moderation, support and safety, and every staff action is recorded in an audit log.

6. Your rights

Access the personal information we hold about you.
Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
Request deletion of your account and personal information.
Object to processing, or lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

7. Retention and security

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and for any period we are legally required to retain records. Data is encrypted in transit, access is controlled by row-level security rules, and administrative actions are logged immutably.
